Q: During the recent ice storm and power outage here in Houston I found it impossible to keep my laptop battery charged. I had no problems going out to the car and charging up my smart phone. Is there a way I can charge a laptop in my car if this ever happens again?

A: The easiest way to charge a laptop in your car would be to purchase a special charging unit made by the laptop manufacturer that is specific to the make and model of your laptop.

For example, if you have a Dell Latitude 5510, you could type in the make and model of the laptop along with the words car charger into your favorite search engine and you will find what Dell has to offer.

These things are not cheap when bought from the manufacturer, but Amazon offers quite a few inexpensive options that typically offer a variety of connectors that will fit several different kinds of laptops, including laptops that charge from USB-C.
